Four-time premiership-winning coach Ivan Cleary has informed the Penrith Panthers that he will not extend his tenure beyond the conclusion of the 2027 NRL season.
Cleary also confirmed that he has no plans to take up another first grade coaching position once his current deal with the Panthers expires, signalling the end of an era for one of the NRL’s most successful mentors.
In a major leadership transition, current Panthers assistant coach Peter Wallace has been appointed as Cleary’s successor from the 2028 season onwards after agreeing to a three-year contract.
The Panthers said the long-term succession strategy is designed to ensure stability, continuity, and ongoing success as the club prepares for the future beyond Cleary’s remarkable reign.
